The Orana Equestrian Club (OEC) was formed in 1978/79 after a desire to learn more about the emerging discipline of dressage. Members were after an adult riding group that would foster dressage and offer clinics to further the education of both riding skill and horses. Dressage was fast becoming a growing popularity and they were riders in our part of New South Wales that were starting to compete in the “Olympic Discipline of Grand Prix Dressage”, namely Nita McAuley and Equador who were based in Young at that time.
The OEC made do with a sand arena in what is now the parking area/sideshow alley of the showground until the trotting track was extended. Ideas were then floated about the construction of a permanent outdoor and indoor arena. These are now in place at the eastern area of the Showground and which are now the OEC grounds. It is with great thanks to the Late Elizabeth Milstead (nee Ault) that was the driving force of these two assets to Dubbo and the Late Peter Green who instigated the trees and shrubs and fencing around the area. In 1999 the OEC hosted the NSW State Dressage Championships and the arenas were an added attraction to competitors.
The Club now conducts two official competitions per year (in March and October - the championships) as well as Club Training Days and a well contested Club Members Championship Event in November. The Training Days are hosted on the first Sunday of each month. Club days are held on the first Sunday of each month at the OEC Grounds at Dubbo Showground. Club has a covered full sized sand dressage arena providing fabulous protection on those hot and/or rainy days, as well as a spacious watered grass area to warm up in. Stables are available - bookings are direct with Dubbo Regional Council.
We are are very proud of the firm friends that have been made both in Dubbo and surrounding areas such as Mudgee, Orange/Bathurst, Coonamble and Young and Sydney.
